Pit Bull Rescued From Michael Vick Dog Fighting Ring Now Cuddles Kittens

Posted By John Allen

Every dog has its day.

Pup-centric website BarkPost has honored a very special cavity bull in its on-going video series, Dog’s Best Day, which aims to give one well-deserving pooch 24 -hours of total tail-wagging wonderment.

Cherry Garcia, who was among the more than 50 cavity bulls removed from an illegal dog fighting ring housed in NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s Virginia property in 2007, is fully rehabilitated and has been living with a loving family since 2010. The docile pit bull love swimming, hanging out with his family and snuggling with kittens.

“Cherry only loves his kittens, he has two cats now and he loves to play with them, ” Paul Fiaccone, Cherry’s owner told BarkPost in the above video. “Every day he’s around kittens, it’s like all the stress goes away. He would definitely love to be a kitty nanny for a day.”

So, for Cherry’s best day ever, that’s just what Bark Post and Friends of Berlin Animal Control delivered. They brought a few fuzzy felines that Cherry could snuggle with in his very own Kitten Cuddle Fort 😛 TAGEND

Next up, the pooch popped over to Brownstone Bakery for Dogs where Cherry got a dog-safe sundae, which he slurped up with elation 😛 TAGEND

And at the tail end of his best day ever, Cherry, who loves the water, got to splash around in his very own backyard beach.

“What people don’t understand,[ is] that the dogs in fighting rings are no different than any other dog. The proof is in Cherry, ” Fiaccone said in the video. “He wants to be happy. He wants to give back. What he wants to do is love.”

Cherry Garcia, who is just as sweet as the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavorhe’s named after, has been down a rocky road.

The dogs who were removed from Vick’s home in 2007 suffered horrendous abuse. Some dogs, who didn’t perform well in fights, were even executed though drowning, hanging and electrocution, The Washington Post reported .

At the time of the rescue, some organizations, like PETA, thought that these dogs were so badly injury that they were beyond rehabilitation and should be euthanized. But the folks at Best Friends Animal Society disagreed.

In fact, the Utah-based group took in 22 of Vick’s former fighting dogs, including Cherry, and dubbed them “Vicktory Dogs” because they were so committed to turning these pooches’ lives around.

And Cherry did a 180.

Though, at first he was clearly traumatized.

“When we would try to walk him, he would flatten his body right to the ground and almost crawl because he was so scared, ” Michelle Weaver, Best Friends’ director of animal care, told BarkPost in the above video.

Yet through the groups’ rehabilitation process, by the time Cherry was adopted by the Fiaccone family in 2010, he was an absolute snuggle bug.

“Watching him with our 2-year-old son and our newborn daughter is something more special than I could ever describe, ” Fiaccone told The Huffington Post in 2014. “He is always maintaining an eye on them and he loves them so much. It’s hard to think of my son without having Cherry in the picture.”

Fiaccone also added 😛 TAGEND

“We have learned so much from Cherry. This is a dog that had chemicals poured on his back, forced to fight for his life, and flat-out tortured, yet he maintains moving forward, he doesn’t have a rearview mirror. He doesn’t look at himself as a victim, he looks at himself as a survivor.”

Deadly Mali hotel attack: ‘They were shooting at anything that moved’

Posted By John Allen

( CNN) Heavily armed gunmen on Friday fired haphazardly at guests at a hotel hosting envoys and others in Mali’s capital, the maA( r) tre d’ told CNN.

At least 21 people were killed in the two attacks in which an al Qaeda-affiliated group is taking partial responsibility.

“These people started shooting. They were shooting at everybody without asking a single topic. They were shooting at anything that moved, ” Tamba Couye said of the two attacks at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako.

One man did holler “Allahu akbar, ” said Couye, who was working in the restaurant where breakfast was underway. The attackers voiced like they were from northern Mali, he told “Erin Burnett OutFront.”

Couye said an attacker chased him from the hotel but he came back later to help because his instincts told him he needed to do so to save lives.

Dozens of people were trapped in the building for hours, officials in the West African nation said, before Malian and U.N. security force launched a counterattack and rushed guests away.

Olivier Salgado, a spokesman for the United Nation peacekeeping mission in Mali, put the death toll at 21.

At least six people injured in the two attacks have been hospitalized, Health Minister Marie Madeleine Togo told state broadcaster ORTM.

Tom Brady: Donald Trump is a good friend of mine and I support him

Four-time Super Bowl champion quarterback reaffirms friendship with Republican frontrunner

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who previously told it would be great if Donald Trump were elected president, reaffirmed his relationship with the Republican candidate on Tuesday.

Can I just stay out of this debate? Brady told WEEI-FM with a giggle. Donald is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends. That is what I have to say. Hes a good friend of mine. Hes always been so supportive of me for the last 15 years, since I judged a beauty pageant for him, which was one of the very first things that I did that thought was really cool. That came along with winning the Super Bowl. Hes always invited me to play golf. Ive always enjoyed his company.

I support all my friends in everything they do. I think its pretty remarkable what hes achieved in his life. Youre going from business, various kinds of an incredible business man and then a Tv starring, and then get into politics. Its a pretty different career path. I think that is pretty remarkable.

Trump has not been bashful about his association with the four-time Super Bowl champ. In an interview with the Washington Post last Wednesday, the commanding Republican frontrunner attributed his popularity in New England to his relationship with Brady.

In Massachusetts, Im at 48%. You know why? Tom Brady told Trumps the greatest, Trump told. He tells it to anyone who asks him. You know, its hard for a guy like him to say that. When youre a football player, you dont want to be taking sides in campaigns and having the Hillary[ Clinton] people now say youre not as good as Bart Starr. You understand. So Tom Brady is great.

In April, Brady notably skipped the Patriots visit with President Obama to commemorate the teams Super Bowl XLIX victory, prompting supposition about political tilts that hed once described as independent in a 2005 interview on 60 Minutes.

Trump will trade verbal jolts with eight challengers on Wednesday night in the fifth US presidential primary debate at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Wolf Blitzer will moderate the event for host network CNN.

Peyton Manning And The Denver Broncos Are Going To The Super Bowl

Posted By John Allen

In a gritty AFC Championship game that featured fewer quarterback heroics than expected, the Denver Broncos held off the New England Patriots on Sunday , notching a 20 -1 8 upset victory and punching their ticket to Super Bowl 50.

The Broncos described first blood when quarterback Peyton Manning observed tight end Owen Daniels for the 21-yard touchdown. The Patriots scored just about six minutes later on a one-yard rushing, but missed the extra-point endeavor and entered the first one-quarter break down one.

Due in part to a less than-perfect performance from Tom Brady — the signal caller was sacked four times and threw two interceptions — the favored team could never quite climb all the way back.

The Broncos did, however, have a scare. With only ticks remaining in the fourth period a New England touchdown gave the visiting squad the chance to take control of the game.

The score was 20 -1 8, with Brady’s Patriots lining up for the two-point conversion endeavor. Brady got the pass off, but it was deflected as it reached the end zone and ruled incompletes, effectively rendering New England’s last touchdown moot. Just minutes later, video games ran final and the Broncos were able to celebrate the upset on their home field in the Mile High City.

Of course, it was the Manning-Brady head-to-head matchup that was most discussed coming into Sunday’s contest. Given both Manning’s rough year and his inconsistent history in the postseason, many pundits and fans alike gave the pregame advantage to Brady.

But after all was said and done, it was Manning who came out on top, throwing fewer interceptions, more touchdowns and, to the utter pleasure of his teammates, even scrambling for a 12 -yard first down at one point in the second half.

With the victory under their belt, Denver will go on to meet the win of the NFC Championship Game in the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.

( CNN) Assailants with guns blazing attacked a hotel hosting diplomats and others in Mali’s capital on Friday morning, leaving at the least 21 people dead and trapping dozens in the building for hours, officials in the West African nation said.

Malian and U.N. security forces launched a counterattack at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako and escorted guests out. By late Friday afternoon , no hostages were believed to remain in the building, though attackers still were inside, Malian army Col. Mamadou Coulibaly told reporters.

Twenty-one people were killed, said Olivier Salgado, a spokesman for the United Nation united nations peacekeeping operation in Mali. At least six people injured in the two attacks have been hospitalized, Mali Health Minister Marie Madeleine Togo told state broadcaster ORTM.

Video aired by ORTM demonstrated security personnels leading people out of the building.

The assault began about 7 a. m ., when two or three attackers with AK-4 7 rifles exited at the least one vehicle with diplomatic plates and entered the hotel with guns firing, Salgado said.

The attack, Salgado said, came as the hotel hosted diplomatic delegations working on a peace process in the landlocked country, a former French colony that has been battling Islamist radicals with the help of U.N. and French forces.

The Radisson chain used to say as many as 170 people — 140 guests and 30 employees — had been there as the two attacks began.

Malian soldiers and U.N. troops had the hotel surrounded, a journalist for ORTM told CNN from the scene. Two security personnels were injured, Security Minister Salif Traore said on ORTM.

“We’re still hearing erratic gunfire, ” journalist Katarina Hoije told CNN from near the scene Friday afternoon.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Radisson Blu Hotel is in an upscale neighborhood outside the center of Bamako, rising high above the dusty streets and surrounding houses. With 190 rooms and suites, it is known as a hub for international guests such as diplomats and businessperson, and it is a 15 -minute drive from Bamako-Senou International Airport.

Mongi Hamdi, head of the U.N. mission in Mali, said the diplomats’ sessions, which began Thursday, were a possible reason for the two attacks.

“I think this attack has been perpetrated by negative forces-out, terrorists, who do not want to see peace in Mali, ” Hamdi said.

He left the gym and walked to a door leading to the vestibule. “When I opened the door, I watched, on the floor, bullets.” He then left the building.

Twenty Indian nationals who were staying at the hotel have been safely evacuated, Vikas Swarup, a spokesman for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said on Twitter.

FULL STORY :

Security forces-out have allegedly been launched a counterassault on a hotel in the capital of the West African nation of Mali, where officials say gunmen took dozens of captives and killed at least three people Friday morning.

The situation began around 7 a. m. at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, when two or three attackers with AK-4 7 rifles exited at least one vehicle with diplomatic plates and entered the hotel with guns firing, told Olivier Saldago, a spokesman for the United Nation mission in Mali.

Two Malian nationals and a French national have died, a U.N. official told without elaborating.

The attack, Saldago told, came as the hotel hosted diplomatic delegations to peace talks in the landlocked country, a former French colony that has been combating Islamist radicals with the help of U.N. and French forces.

There was conflicting information about how many people were in the hotel. The Radisson chain used to say as many as 170 people had been there as the attack began, and that 125 guests and 13 employees still were inside by early Friday afternoon.

By noon, the country’s country broadcaster, ORTM, reported that at least 80 people had been freed. But Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita released a statement indicating 17 had been rescued.

Malian soldiers and U.N. troops had the hotel surrounded, a journalist for ORTM told CNN from the scene. Two security personnels were injured, Malian Security Minister Salif Traore said on ORTM.

“We’re still hearing erratic gunfire, ” journalist Katarina Hoije told CNN from near the scene Friday afternoon.

No group instantly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Counterassault underway, French President says

The Radisson Blu Hotel is in an upscale neighborhood outside the center of Bamako, rising high above the dusty streets and surrounding homes. With 190 rooms and suites, it is known as a hub for international guests such as diplomats and businessperson, and it is a 15 -minute drive from Bamako-Senou International Airport.

Security forces-out have begun a counterassault on the hotel, told French President Francois Hollande, who said he’d been in touch with Malian authorities dealing with the hostage situation.

Hollande, speaking to reporters in Paris, pledged to provide “necessary support” to help Mali resolve the situation.

France on Friday afternoon said it dispatched to Mali an upper-class paramilitary group trained in hostage rescue and counterterrorism operations.

U.S. special operations forces-out also are helping “move civilians to procured places as Malian forces-out clear the hotel of hostile gunmen, ” told Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Falvo, a spokesman for U.S. Africa Command.

The attack goes merely a day after Hollande praised his troops for successfully opposing Islamists in the former French colony. It also goes a week after France suffered its own high-profile terror attack: Shootings and suicide bombings, claimed by the terror group ISIS, that killed 130 people in and near Paris.

French military involvement in Mali picked up in 2013, when France, at Mali’s request, launched an offensive after revolutionary Islamists seized the strategic town of Konna. The ground and air campaign sent Islamist fighters who had seized the northern region fleeing into the vast desert.

There are no French troops stationed in Bamako right now, the French army said.

‘I watched bullets on the floor’

Michael Skapoullis, a man who lives near the Radisson Blu, told CNN he was using the hotel’s gym Friday morning when he noticed fellow exercisers leaving. He hadn’t heard anything because he was listening to music, but he decided to follow.

He walked to a door leading to the hotel vestibule, and that’s when he saw something was wrong.

“I watched bullets on the floor of the vestibule, ” Skapoullis said. “So I gently closed the door, and … I went back into the gym” and eventually left the complex.

August attack

Mali: The long, troubled desert road ahead

Friday’s attack comes about three months after 12 people — including five Malian soldiers — were killed in a hostage situation and ensuing combat at a hotel in Sevare in central Mali in August.

The soldiers stormed the hotel to aim a daylong siege that started when gunmen raided the hotel after assaulting a military site nearby, witnesses said.

In that incident, the attackers were to be associated with the Macina Liberation Movement. Human Rights Watch has described the group as Islamists who commit “serious abuses in the course of military operations against Mali’s security forces.”
